I am taking over this here blog indefinitely -Brandon

Hello all of you out there, Brandon here to tell you the things that have gone down since we've last updated. So a few things have happened since the bloody Budget Inn. We awoke for the 9 am shuttle but it was full so we hitched ourselves back up to Dick's Creek for our 12 mile day, it was a rough transition back into the hiking life with our bellies bloated and our bodies clean. We transitioned nicely into it after that day. We met back up with our buddy ol' pal Adaline and camped at Muskrat Shelter that evening. The next day we decided we had the energy to make it 16 more miles to Betty Creek where we met many an interesting folk and saw some people we had already met. The hiking was beautiful, clear skies all day. From Betty Creek we headed to Siler Bald where the Trail Witch resided. Her trail name is PegLeg but she was a retired Marine who is carrying the pack of a comrade who died in the field. Her feet had become swollen from two consecutive 20 mile days and she sat in the shelter saying the craziest things. We put up with her kookiness to keep put of the massive storm that was suppose to erupt that night. PegLeg told ghost stories and reminded us that the trail isn't just a walk in the woods but it holds real dangers outside of bears. She also Gabe us pur trail names. Bridget follows every statement with laughter so she was named Giggles, I wear a red and white striped beanie and wear glasses so I am now Waldo hahaha! From Siler Bald we hiked 17 miles to Wesser Bald, our late stop put us there at 7 at night, God that was awful but we'll worth it because the next morning we only walked 7 miles downhill to be at the Nantahalla Outdoor Center. We idiotically booked for today however and it was yesterday when we made it here so we went into Franklin North Carolina to add to our resupply @ the NOC. A hiker reffered us to a gentleman named David who lives in Franklin to get us from point A to point B. David is an interesting man, he is in his 80s, he drives a supped-up black Jeep Rubicon and he formerly worked for NASA. Now David unofficially shuttles hikers because he loves what we love for. Our ride back was an interesting one as well, David stopped at a meat processing plant to pick up some EXTREMELY fresh and cheap sausage. Then he took us to Asian King which is a buffet of chinese food. We swelled up until we took on the appearances of 7 month pregnant women. David then drove us to a motel. We split a room at another budget inn with Adaline because she needed to rent a car to go to a wedding. And for those of you worrying that she won't finish, she left as psyched as she was when we met her so she's coming right on back. Her birthday was yesterday so she, bridgey, and myself went to a brewery. They drank and we listened to live music. Another hiker by the name of forrest performed live for us in our motel room. We then crashed, it was a long day believe me. Today we headed back in Adalines rental car to the NOC and we checked in to our room and said our farewells. We cracked down on our plan for the next five days and rested. Today was uneventful but definitely needed if we don't want to break on the trail. Seeing this much society and having this much accessibility becomes very tempting and makes you wary. The sooner we can get the hell out of this hostel and into the Smilies the better. Gatlinburg, NC is our next pitstop for food. Five or six days out. Until then write us those letters freunden. Motivation comes from you. We're just the idiots dumb enough to take on the task. And as always we are super psyched! It's just one foot right in front of the other, right? Bonne nuit

Brandon's randomly scheduled blog takeover.

Hey folks it's Brandon the other one hiking with my sis Bridge. Today is another one of those rest days, not quite a zero-miler but nearly. We had to resupply for food and rest our feet/hips/ankles/knees. On Thursday we hiked approximately 18.8 miles, boy that was a woozy leaving us tired and in low spirits until we reached the shelter. The next day, Friday, we decided hey we are tired, our feet hurt, and we are low on food and it's St.Pattys day why don't we hike 15.5 more miles, so we did. The bright side to doing that was we were only 3.6 miles from our next resupply point and town, Hiawassee. Currently we are rest with a nice lady we met named Adeline who is also a crazy nutcase like us and decided to hike some ridiculous miles today to restock her food. It's been nice for the most part here, a little rainy and windy but 60 degrees! 60! All of our gear is dry, we got some laundry done and we are hoping to set out tomorrow at 9 and do about 12 miles which shouldn't be bad seeing as we got some much need rest and food in our bellies. The psych is high and the way is clear. Everybody that wishes to send us letters please contact our mommy @9374571. She will give you our home address or you could just drop it off at our house and she will send it to our next supply pickup. We respond too! As many letters as we get will fuel us to the finish guys so please send us your prayers, your words, your encouragement. Hell send us some hate letters too, what doesn't kill us makes us stronger! Alright leave out homies, hope to see you soon.

Four days in... already at a hostel

So after months of "planning" my brother and I have finally started northbound on the A.T. The days preceding our departure were filled with that awful nauseous, anxious feeling in the pit of our stomachs. The moment we hit the trail on Sunday, it was gone. First day was not bad hiking at all. We did 8 miles plus 1 retracing our steps up and down Springer so it would all be official of course. Day 2 was not great in terms of all the uphill, downhill action - we only did a little over 7 miles. It was a warm sleep though! Then we woke up to snow the next morning and it snowed all day and the wind kept blowing... yea winter hiking at its best. We did 16 miles though and went over the highest peak so far, Blood Mountain (super creepy name - legend has it there was a huge battle among two Native American tribes. So many were slaughtered that the mountain flowed with the blood of the fallen. There's a sweet tale to tell the kiddies!) Hoping to stay at the hostel at Neel Gap that night... we found it to be full so we tented outside last night in the brutal wind (30 mph wind gusts). So rather than continue on with another day/night of sub zero nights with the windchill, we decided to stay at the hostel today/night. I feel no shame in taking a zero day this early on with the weather being this cold/windy. Also, I can let my sweaty clothes dry because although it's cold out, I'm still sweating doing all those miles. I do regret not taking any pictures except for at Springer and that's one thing I hope to amend these next couple days... it's just my fingers were going to freeze off if I tried pushing the shutter! So please enjoy this lame picture of my brother and me at the top of Springer! And this other photo from my iPhone!
